Report on the 1st IncluDE Research Workshop

The IncluDE Research Workshop invites guests from diverse research fields related to DEI and engage in discussion together with the participants.
The 1st IncluDE Research Workshop was held on October 10, 2025.
The theme of the 1st IncluDE Research Workshop was “Intersectional Analysis of University of Tokyo Graduates.” We invited the authors of “A Study of the University of Tokyo Graduates — Academic Elites Through Data” (Chikuma Shinsho, 2025) — Prof. Yuki Honda, Assoc. Prof. Madoka Nakano, and Researcher Kyoko Kubo — as speakers. They also provided an explanation on the book’s concrete proposals directed toward UTokyo. The workshop was moderated by Prof. Sayaka Oki, and a discussion was held based on Q&A.
The one-hour workshop was conducted in webinar format and opened publicly through the IncluDE website. A total of 21 participants — including university students, media professionals, and faculty members from other institutions — registered through the website, and about 30 participants attended on the day.
During the discussion, a wide range of questions and comments were raised, including differences in the sense of personal responsibility across academic departments, reasons for the comparatively low redistributive orientation among UTokyo graduates, contrasts with private universities, gender gaps among graduates, and the relationship between individual responsibility discourse and the humanities–science divide.
The workshop fostered an interactive exchange of perspectives among spears and participants.
