DEI Workshop Held During Optional Stratified Training for Staff

On November 29, the DEI Co-Creation Promotion Strategy Office conducted a one-hour, in-person workshop as part of the optional stratified training for staff, as part of ongoing DEI promotion efforts.

The purpose of this workshop was to learn the basic attitude of DEI, which is essential for effective team management. Participants were introduced to DEI concepts beforehand and watched videos about microaggressions and other challenges that ethnic and sexual minorities face on a daily basis. This was followed by discussions on workplace issues and potential solutions. Additionally, attendees exchanged ideas on overcoming barriers to fostering “psychological safety” in their workplaces.

The session concluded with exploring specific ideas for applying what they learned in this session to their daily work.

“I learned the importance of understanding others’ perspectives and being mindful of them, even in casual conversations.”

“I realized that there are many different types of diversity, and that what I usually pay attention to is only a part of it, and that there are many unconscious biases that I was unaware of. I would like to work with that kind of awareness and imagination.”

“I thought I was being considerate, but there were some viewpoints that I was completely unaware of. I believe this kind of awareness training should be mandatory for all faculty members.

“It would be beneficial to have opportunities to take this course regularly.”

We also received comments such as, “It would be easier to have a discussion if I participate in the training after having a better prior knowledge” and “It would be better if the training were longer”.
